HEALTH INSURANCE

I am so pissed off right now at my health insurance. They have been paying for my medical treatment with no problem until today. TODAY they decide that they don't want to pay because my doctor increased my chemo dosage. Okay...same medication, same clinic, same doctor, but different dosage. WHAT IS THE FUCKING difference?! I am the Benefits Manager for my company and I have called all my insiders to ask and no one seems to know, other than they aren't going to pay it. So now my doctor has to change her orders so that they will pay for it. What REALLY doesn't make since is if I get the lower dosage 2 times as week as opposed to the higher dosage once a week, they will pay for it. And in actuality the lower dosage given more frequently is more toxic to me and MORE EXPENSIVE than giving the higher dosage once a week.

I just don't get it. The American healthcare system is such a joke. We are one of the wealthiest countries in the world and we have people that can't afford insurance. We are the laughing stock of Europe and our neighbors to the north(Canada), who both have a universal health care system. Yes the taxes are high and yes there can be lines for everything, but knowing I have health care and housing make it worth it for me. ARE we REALLY only about the almighty dollar here? Do we not care that there are people suffering everyday because they can't pay for the health care or they make $1.00 over the Medicaid limits? Don't even get me started on Medicare!

I am so disappointed and disillusioned with the United States right now. We are paying billions of dollars for a war that most of us don't believe in, but we have people who can't get medical care. I have a MAJOR problem with the logic on that! The government doesn't want to take care of the citizens that are paying the taxes for this war, but Iraqi's are getting all kinds of aid. Ummm okay. I know I shouldn't be complaining too much because I have medical care, shitty medical care, but I have it. But I think about the women who don't have access to medical care. It is a bit scary. I don't think we should look around the world pointing fingers at other countries, when we haven't looked at ourselves first.

Kinda makes you wanna move out of the country, doesn't it?

As long HMOs continue to deepen the pockets of the politicians, those same lawmakers aren't going to lift a finger to change healthcare policy in the United States any time soon, regardless of what political party is in power, both the Dems and GOP are tainted.

It's a damn, damn shame we allocate money for war, for bankrupt corporations, for congressional raises, and for similar shit, yet so many of us are medically uninsured. I can't stand stories like this anymore; it makes me sick - sorry for the pun. Anyway, when I tell this to a lot of people in this country they soon utter that terrible word "socialism." Well, so be it. There is a reason why in Cuba they have the best healthcare system in all of Latin America, and maybe in all of the western hemisphere, if we go by per capita.

You're both right. The only foreseeable solution is immigration. To where? That’s the question.

sorry, that should be "emigration," not immigration.

Yes the U.S. is a great country and we do enjoy freedoms other countries have, but my point is our lawmakers, people we elect, make some stupid ass decisions. It seems like when Bill Clinton was in office everything was going well. But now that George W is in office things have been shot to hell in hand basket. I just want us to fix US before we try to fix other places.
Patrick...I am really leaning towards Canada. They have a VERY liberal immigration policy...I can be a legal resident and maintain my US citizenship. I would say I would move to Cuba but I hate standing in lines. LOL

Canada sounds great, especially Vancouver, a place I have been and love, like what the US should be like. You're right. As far as Cuba goes, I was using that country as an example. I don't know about the lines, I guess that's an entire different posting altogether.

Trina,
Now I see what my parents were angry about in the 80's. How everything was so expensive. I can remember those days somewhat but I was an "Adult" during the Clinton era. He was actually the first president I had the opportunity to vote for.

Hey Patrick,
Why did you take your Blog off? I enjoyed reading it. You have an excellent way with words. I hope you are pursuing your writing career!

Kim, I put the blog on hold to concentrate on finishing my novel. The blog will return once I finish the first draft. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it, and sorry it's not up at the moment, but, yes, it will return.

...Speaking of first presidential election voting... mine was for Nader back in 2000; totally regret it now.

Alexander said...

Well, regret might be too strong a word. I take it back. What I really should have said is I wish I didn't have to vote for Nader, because Gore should have had the same ideals and platform. Personally I like Ralph Nader, and think he's done more for this country than Bush, Reagan, and little Bush combined had ever done.

I voted for Ross Perot in a Primary election once. LMAO! My dad yelled at me for "wasting" my vote. lol...It was my first time voting and it was just the thought of doing something different. lmao!
